Its the little things

So
Reina isn't doing too much, as she's just shy of a week old, BUT she has some activities that we find quite original (alright, we don't know how original they are since she's the only newborn we know). First, she is adorable when she yawns! Check out the video.
Chris has also dubbed her our "frogger." This is because her legs are ALWAYS scrunched up like a frog. Check out the picture of her in the car seat - we literlly have to fight her to unfurl them (and herself). Chris has also decided that the legs spring out in "defense" during diaper changes - although we prefer to think of it as her way of preparing for the soccer star we all know she's going to be. You can see the "defense" mechanism shot in the picture in which she is screaming! Looking at the picture to the left, you will also notice that Reina fits in NOTHING! She is just too small for even the newborn clothes. She is swimming in the gown!

It's A Girl!

Reina Leighton Eastman was born on Jan. 4th, 2009 at 10:24pm. She weighed 6lbs 10oz and scored 9 and 9 on her apgar tests (scale that goes to 10 ranking the "healthiness" of a newborn - she did great (10s are unheard of). I was in early labor at home for about 6 hours before heading to the hospital to wait another 15 hours before Reina would make her entrance. She came out with a full head of dark brown hair and a nice full cry. The doctors were worried about her during labor because unless I was laying on my left side her heart rate would drop. At one point four nurses and the midwife showed up, only to have me quickly change positions and put me on oxygen. AND...the midwife on call happend to be Commander Corey - my favorite doctor. Her and all of the nurses were amazing. All in all, the labor and delivery was pretty rough. It really is true what they tell you about giving birth - it hurts! We all came home Tuesday afternoon and are slowly recovering....although the exhaustion is slowly creeping up on us. We already went back in for Reina's newborn check up. She has lost about 5% of her birth weight which was great according to the pediatrician. Despite fighting a little bit of jaundice, Reina is doing great.

Thanks to the DoDDS "hotline" I think the whole world already knows Reina was born! We heard from Mr. Stevens, a teacher Chris and I had in 7th grade! We have slowly been taking pictures, but we're feeling a little busy! We're working on it though. I created a slideshow below that you can click on to see the pictures up close. Thanks for all of the supportive emails we've recieved.

So, its Jan. 1 here, about 4 in the pm and still no baby. Just wanted to let all who were wondering know! Chris and I have been avidly walking, but to no avail! Hopefully the next time I post I will be including a delightful birth story and pictures of a beautiful new baby! Happy New Years everyone - hopefully I'll deliver before 2010!
