There's Something About Reina

Now I know what you're thinking - of course there's something about Reina. She's wonderful! However, that is not what I was going for. Today during dinner, Reina grabbed her hair. This resulted in a nice "gel" streaked strand of hair sticking out (look carefully in the photo). As soon as Chris and I noticed this during dinner, we both looked at each other and thought, "its just like 'There's Something about Mary.'" If you don't remember the particular scene we're remembering, let's just say the context is inappropriate for Reina - and you can email me and I'll remind you.

Aside from Reina making a mess out of meals (how typical), which is due in large part to pineapple and tofu in this case, we're doing pretty good. There was a bit of drama about 30 minutes ago that I am recovering from. We were putting Reina to bed, which culminates with my nursing Reina. Well, Reina finally decided to put those chompers to test and all I can say is "ouch!" As soon as she bit me with her new opposing top and bottom teeth, I yelped, and she immediately smiled. I then put her in her crib (un-fed) and left crying. Gosh, I'm so dramatic. Chris, feeling bad, went and got Reina and brought her out so that she could apologize. Reina pretty much did her usual smile and climb all over me gig. From now I fear that nursing her will never be the same. I am always going to be waiting for her to bite me! Yikes.

Cutie

Just took some cute pics of Reina that I wanted to share. She is working on two new teeth - which I am contributing to the subsequent fever last night. She has a nice point poking through on her top right front tooth and the bottom left one is JUST about to break the surface.

This Morning

This morning I taped some footage of Reina being Reina! And then I learned a bit about imovie (my arch nemesis - mainly because it is a newer version). I also snapped a pic of Reina searching for her favorite play object - shoes! She gets that from both of us.

Other than Reina feeling SO much better after a bought of conjunctivitis and a bad cold (that she graciously passed on to me), we have been working on our new house. I haven't mentioned it too much because despite me NOT being very superstitious, well, I didn't want to jinx it! Chris and I have been discussing the possibility of purchasing a house here in Okinawa since we got here two years ago. Buying a house here is tricky mainly because the Japanese government won't give loans to Americans. We have since found a Japanese man (via a rental housing agency) who is helping us; he has found us some land in Yomitan and we have drawn up plans to have a house built. We are WAY excited! I uploaded the newest set of plans to the 8month slide show. We are limited by how big we can build (of course) based on how much we can afford. The piece of land we are building on is about 3300sq.ft and the projected house is about 1800sq.ft. Based on the layout of the land, we've drawn up a 3 bedroom, 2 story house. We've had two meetings with the builder, so we're feeling a bit more confident - like, yes, this is actually going to happen. I'll keep you posted.
